Learn about shark behavior and how to avoid adverse interactions.

"A lot of people are afraid of sharks. It's because of the way that they're negatively portrayed and mis-portrayed in mainstream media. Unfortunately, it's true that about 10 people a year die from a shark-related incident, most likely from a mistaken identity bite, a single bite and release. However, on the flip side, the question I like to ask a lot of people, how many sharks do you think are killed by humans every year? And I want you to think about that for a minute and take a wild guess in your mind: How many sharks do you think are killed by humans every year? Sharks kill 10 people. Humans kill over a hundred million every year."

"I just don’t want an incident to happen with anyone, especially given my goals of conservation and trying to help people to better coexist."

Who is this course for?

This course is for anyone interested in sharks, one of the world's most fascinating apex predators.

"This course is for everyone," says Ocean. "I really wanted to address what I feel everyone in the world should know about sharks – not only for their own personal safety, so that they can have healthier, more respectful interactions with sharks and the ocean. But also, I hope people are inspired to help save the lives of sharks. With this information, I hope people will learn to appreciate sharks for their role as apex predators."

What do I need for this course?

Just an internet connection. Safety is the top priority. By accessing the information in this class, you do so at will and at your own risk. Sharks are apex predators, and can behave aggressively so Ocean strongly advises against putting any of the information from this class into practice unless you are an advanced swimmer, snorkeler, diver, surfer, or water person.

What doesn't the course cover?

This is not a breath holding, spearfishing course, or diving course. You will not learn freediving or breathing techniques from Ocean.

In what currency is the price?

Prices are in USD.

What if I don't like it?

We really hope you love it! And we feel confident you will. There is no instructor on earth better qualified to teach you about shark behavior and safety than Ocean Ramsey. Unfortunately, we’re not able to offer refunds. If you’re on the fence, we strongly recommend that you watch the preview videos to get a sense of what the class is like before you buy.

How long do I have access to the course?

For life, brah. If you ever want to reference one of Ocean's lessons, just fire it up!

How else can I learn about sharks?

Well...if you're in Hawaii, go dive with Ocean! Ocean also has great resources available on her website and in her book, What You Should Know About Sharks.

About Ocean Ramsey

Ocean Ramsey is one of the world's leading shark researchers and divers. "I hope to inspire a shift from fear to fascination," says Ramsey. "I'm grateful to be a part of that, to start to create those conversations around sharks: What are they really like? It's fear to fascination, replacing fear with scientific facts and allowing people to see another side, and actually, the reality." Ramsey operates One Ocean Diving in Haleiwa, Hawaii, and also runs the nonprofit Ocean Inspired, which is dedicated to shark research and conservation. "Inspiration is actually the approach that I love to take for conservation," says Ramsey.
